Olympians and other elite athletes have long since followed the doctrine “live high, and compete low,” in the belief that high elevation training will give them a competitive edge due to increased endurance. Not everyone has the option of relocating to high altitudes simply for training however, which is why Bas Rutten has made the o2Trainer available for all fitness enthusiasts.
Bas does NOT claim that using the o2trainer is the same as high altitude training, but strengthening your breathing muscles (11 lbs!) will increase your stamina guaranteed since you will be able to move air in and out of your lungs AND at a higher rate. Add that 95% of the people breathe incorrect, and the o2trainer will correct that for you, you will be amazed with the results. Just read the reviews!
High elevation training for endurance athletes works because the body adapts to the lower levels of oxygen at higher altitudes by producing more red blood cells. The increase in red blood cells delivers more oxygen to the muscles, ostensibly increasing endurance and performance once they return to lower levels.
Any athlete will confirm that breath is life when it comes to competition. Being able to last longer, through more rounds, without losing focus and ability can be key to success. At the highest levels of competition, when a fraction of a second is the difference between winning and losing, every advantage counts. More and more athletes are turning to reduced-oxygen training to provide an extra boost to their training regimen.
One thing though, also more and more athletes LIVE in a high altitude home which is located at sea level. Research found that your mind and body will get less o2, and because of that you will have a less productive workout. So now many athletes, live, sleep, eat, do everything in a high altitude home, but do their workouts outside of that home. This will STILL spark their red blood cell count
